Patrick Surtain II or Jaycee Horn? That is the prevailing question concerning the Dallas Cowboys and the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft.

The Dallas Cowboys have a glaring need at cornerback. That much is very obvious, especially with Chidobe Awuzie walking in free agency. Many assume that Dallas will take one of the draft’s top corners with its top-10 draft pick.

Both Surtain II and Horn are bonafide first-round talents at the cornerback position. Either one would be a great addition to the Cowboys defense. Dallas desperately needs to pair rising second-year corner Trevon Diggs with another talented cover man.

It would come as a big surprise if Dallas ultimately passes on either player come draft time — much less both. However, that is exactly the case in NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah’s latest mock draft.

Daniel Jeremiah is one of the most respected people in the NFL Draft industry. There is no denying how great he is at his job. That is why so many people look forward to each and every mock draft that he publishes.

Jeremiah has the Cowboys going in a strange direction in his latest mock draft that was published on Wednesday. Dallas passes on both of the aforementioned corners in favor of a pass rusher with the 10th overall selection.

10. Dallas Cowboys — Kwity Paye, Michigan, Edge

Paye is the most explosive pass rusher in the draft. He would team up with DeMarcus Lawrence to give the Cowboys a big-time duo off the edges.

Jeremiah has the Cowboys taking Michigan’s Kwity Paye with the 10th overall draft pick. The last Michigan defensive end that the Cowboys drafted did not go well. But the bigger issue is with the next two picks.

Immediately following the Cowboys’ selection are the Giants and the Eagles. Jeremiah has the Giants adding one of the best wide receivers in the draft after Dallas passes on defensive back.

Then, to make matters worse, Jeremiah sends Patrick Surtain II to the Eagles. That would be a crushing turn of events for the Dallas Cowboys. Surtain II appears to be the most logical choice for the Cowboys. Seeing the Alabama product go to a divisional rival after passing the opportunity to draft him would be a big blow.

Additionally, Jaycee Horn ends up going 13th overall in Daniel Jeremiah’s mock draft. Horn is seen as one of the best corners in the class and would also be a nice fit in Dallas. Instead, the Cowboys go pass rusher and pass on the secondary in the first-round.

It is pointless to get too upset at a mock draft, but it would certainly be questionable if the Cowboys pass on a cornerback to draft a pass rusher in the top-10.
