Cornerback is a glaring need on the Dallas Cowboys roster. Trevon Diggs has the potential to be a long-time starter in the secondary, but the Cowboys desperately need to add talent to pair with him.
Anthony Brown is a solid slot corner with experience playing multiple roles on the Dallas defense. Jourdan Lewis is a versatile defensive back with the ability to play some safety or slot corner. Outside of that, there are a ton of questions surrounding the cornerbacks room in Dallas.
The expectation is that the Dallas Cowboys will target a premier corner with the team’s first-round draft pick. The Cowboys will be picking inside the top-10 for the first time since 2016, and there appears to be a solid crop of corners at the top of the draft.
Alabama’s Patrick Surtain II, Virginia Tech’s Caleb Farley, and South Carolina’s Jaycee Horn are the top players at the position. Northwestern’s Greg Newsome is another prospect generating round-one hype. It seems like a good bet that one of those corners will be wearing a Cowboys uniform next season.
POTENTIAL COWBOYS TARGET UNDERGOING SURGERY
Farley is widely considered to be one of the two best corner prospects in this year’s NFL Draft class. Many draftniks rank Farley as the best at the position. That makes the Virginia Tech product a key Dallas Cowboys draft target as we inch closer and closer to April.
Medicals are so huge in the pre-draft process. Teams will completely remove prospects from their boards depending on the severity of injuries. Injury-related news surfaced on Monday regarding Farley, and it is not comforting.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted that Farley will have a microdiscectomy on Tuesday, which will eliminate him from participating at Virginia Tech’s upcoming pro day. Back problems are always scary, and that is obviously the case here.

Caleb Farley opted-out of the 2020 college football season due to COVID-19 concerns. His lack of film and overall rawness to the position already raised concerns for some in the draft community. Still, Farley possesses elite athleticism and proved to be an effective defensive back during his career in Blacksburg.
There is no doubt that Caleb Farley was in serious play for the Cowboys’ 10th overall selection. He very well still could be, but the surgery certainly complicates things. Patrick Surtain appeared to be the prospect most connected to the Cowboys, and this likely strengthens the possibility of the Alabama product ending up in Dallas.
